Student Health and Wellness Staff Licensed school nurses are assigned to each school. The amount of time varies depending on the number of students enrolled, the specialized health procedures required by the students, and the number of students receiving Special Education.
School nurses are licensed by the Minnesota Department of Education. A bachelor's degree in Nursing with Registered Nurse licensure and Public Health Nursing Certification is required to obtain a school nurse license. Forty percent of the staff has a Master's Degree in nursing, public health, or related fields. Five Educational Assistants provide support for the Student Health and Wellness program by assisting with monitoring immunization law compliance, providing vision and hearing screening, and assisting with health records. Several elementary schools have a Health Office Liaison, who is an Eduational Assistant who has first aid training, works under the supervision of the licensed school nurse, and is bilingual. |
