Steps to a HealthierMN - St. Paul
STEPS_MN__stpaul_05

Steps is an initiative of the US Dept. of Health and Human Services which aims to help Americans live longer, better and healthier lives by reducing the burden of diabetes, overweight, obesity and asthma by addressing three related risk factors-- physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use.

Saint Paul Public Schools was selected along with the Minnesota Department of Health and the cities of St. Paul, Rochester, Minneapolis and Willmar to receive Steps to a HealthierUS funding. Funding began in October 2004 and is scheduled to continue for five years.

The Saint Paul Public Schools Steps initiative implements programming for students and staff and awards funding to schools in the district to help promote physical activity and proper nutrition. The program also is focused on educating their target audience about asthma, diabetes and the dangers of tobacco use.
